Lim Kit Siang
Received his early education in Batu Pahat High School
He graduated from University of London with a law degree.
Reporter in Singapore from 1961-1964
Lim Kit Siang founded the DAP in 1965.
In 1969, First elected Member of Parliament for Kota Melaka.
Served as Member of Parliament in :-
Bandar Melaka (1969 - 1974);
Kota Melaka (1974 - 1978)
Petaling Jaya (1978 -1982)
Kota Melaka (1982 - 1986)
Tanjong (1986 - 1999)
Ipoh Timur (since 2004).
Represented as state assemblyman in:-
Kubu, Melaka (1974 - 1982)
Kampong Kolam, Penang (1986 - 1990)
Padang Kota, Penang (1990 -1995)
1969-Became Secretary General in DAP and subsequently became the Chairman of DAP
1978- Became the Parliamentary Opposition Leader after the general election and held the post after all subsequent general elections except that of 1999
1969 to 1970, he was jailed by the Malaysian Government of second Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein for questioning the special position of the indigenous people of Malaysia.
Ten years later in 1979, he was convicted of five charges under Official Secrets Act for exposing an inappropriate arms deal between the government and a Swiss company.
He was again a victim of the Internal Security Act in Operation Lallang in 1987 and was held without trial for 17 months
From 1987 to 1989, fourth Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad jailed him without trial for alleged subversion. Lim was accused of calling the BN government “anti-Chinese and anti-Indian”
